Dr. Horng's Biography

I have the great fortune of being a product of the East and of the West, the Oriental and the Occidental; a student of the teachings of Buddha with the faith of God. I was born in Taiwan to very traditional but forward-thinking parents.

I received my Primary and Secondary education in Singapore. Singapore is a country where the citizens straddle the cultures of the East and the West, and effortlessly traverse these two cultures. At age 16, I came to the United States with my family. Since I was bilingual, I had very different experiences than most new immigrants. I quickly understood the American lifestyle and idiosyncrasies without needing to conform. I became the Valedictorian of my High School despite being different, not completely Americanized and still rooted in my Asian values.

I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Doctor of Medicine from University of Utah. I did my surgical residency in Seattle, Washington. I was a surgeon in solo private practice for 10 years in Seattle. This was followed by 12 years of surgical practice in rural America, Fort Scott, Kansas.

I will take out your gallbladder and appendix, fix your hernias; at the same time, I would happily sit down with you to find ways to avoid the surgeon’s knife. I embrace a lifestyle of Western and Oriental medicines.
